(Re-)Mining Text: From Traditional to Digital (19 March 2019)

DS Symposium 2019The second Digital Scholarship Symposium, titled “(Re-)Mining Text: From Traditional to Digital” was held on 19 March 2019 at Digital Scholarship Lab in University Library. Co-organized by Hong Kong Literature Research Centre and the Library, this Symposium aimed to explore the techniques and applications of text mining in the new era. Researchers mine text in a microscopic way using traditional research methods. But with techniques developed in digital scholarship, they can re-mine the text from a macroscopic perspective.

The one-day Symposium began after Opening Ceremony with the keynote speech given by Professor J. Stephen Downie, Professor and Associate Dean for Research, School of Information Sciences at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the Illinois Co-Director of the HathiTrust Research Center. The three panels in the Symposium on English Text and Social MediaHong Kong Literature and Chinese Text have invited scholars local and overseas universities to share their research projects on text mining.  Programme booklet with Abstract and Biography of the speakers can be downloaded for information.
