    "漸 (zim6)" with the meaning of gradually, step by step, a little by little, such as life and artwork creation are the span of cumulative process. As Feng Zikai mentioned in his article "漸 (zim6)", the essence of gradually process is time. Time, we are not able to grasp it. We always struggle in the past, get lost in the future and tangle in the reality. Mr. Feng tried to further construe the word of “gradually” with a metaphor.     Over the years, the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library has acquired very finely reproduced artworks made by specialists including the Nigensha Publishing Co. Ltd. in Japan and kept in the New Asia College Ch’ien Mu Library. The Collection consists of calligraphy and paintings reproduced from the Tang to the Qing Dynasty. The originals of these artworks are housed in different museums such as National Palace Museum, Taipei, Shanghai Museum, and British Museum. The artwork reproduction requires a high standard of professional and specialized skills.

    It has been a year since the passing of Professor Sir Charles Kao, former Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Nobel Prize Laureate. In memory of the “Father of Fibre Optics”, the Charles K. Kao Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease has organised a roving exhibition “Remembering Charles” to highlight Professor Kao’s lifetime achievements and outstanding contribution, and showcase his artwork produced during his treatment by art therapy from 2013 to 2018.     Our deepest gratitude to Professor Rulan Chao Pian for her generosity, donating her life-time acquisition of music and cultural resources to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Library. Donated materials include manuscripts, correspondences, diaries, photos, teaching materials, over 7,000 audio-visual materials, more than 6,000 books and journals, musical instruments, etc.

    Born in the United States, Professor Rulan Chao Pian (1922–2013) was a world renowned scholar in Chinese music. She started teaching the Chinese language in 1947 at Harvard and ended up with being a Professor Emerita of Music and of East Asian Languages and Civilizations in 1992.
