    CUHK Golden Jubilee Celestial Civilian Scholarship on Hong Kong Literature 2020/21

    CUHK Golden Jubilee Celestial Civilian Scholarship on Hong Kong Literature 2020/21 is now inviting applications from full-time CUHK students taking undergraduate or research postgraduate programmes. There will be two scholarships of HK$10,000 each. Applicants must submit a research paper / thesis / dissertation, written in either English or Chinese, on Hong Kong literature and related fields, and submit a statement of 500-800 words, written in either English or Chinese, on how they made use of the Hong Kong Literature Collection for their research paper / thesis / dissertation.

    The emergency temporary notebook loan scheme (2020-21 Term 2) provides support to students who have difficulty accessing suitable device required for online learning. All notebooks loaned via this scheme must be returned to the Library on or before Jul 16, 2021 and cannot be extended.

    To be eligible for this scheme, applicants must be full-time undergraduate or postgraduate students of CUHK currently residing in Hong Kong, and do not have access to a suitable device, for example, a tablet, desktop or notebook computer at home for online learning.

    Open Access Publishing Pilot for CUHK Researchers

    You can publish your articles in the Cambridge University Press and Karger Open Access (OA) journals for free.

    The CUHK Library has signed a transformative agreement pilot with the Cambridge University Press and Karger publishers to provide OA publishing opportunities for CUHK researchers. During the 3-year pilot (2021-2023), the library subscription fee paid to the publishers is partially used to cover the Article Processing Charge (APC) for publishing articles in OA journals and hybrid journals with an OA option. All eligible CUHK researchers can publish their OA articles with the Cambridge University Press or Karger with the APC fully waived .     The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China announced the sixth batch of ‘National Catalogue of Precious Ancient Books’ on 13 November 2020. Fifteen Chinese ancient books from the CUHK Library’s Rare Book Collection have been included in the final list. The selection criteria of the National Catalogue of Precious Ancient Books are extremely strict - listed materials must be of scholarly value, historical and cultural significance, and they should be handwritten or printed before 1912 in the form of classical binding. This is the first time that Chinese ancient books from a Hong Kong academic library collection have been selected as national precious books.

    Co-organized by the Department of Fine Arts, Garden Streams and the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library, the exhibition Nàng Tự Do features the life of Vietnamese boat people in the detention camps in Hong Kong in the 1980s and 1990s and will be held at the University Library from 21 October 2020 - 16 April 2021. The exhibition aims to discuss the relationship between “refugees” and contemporary society by reviewing this unique piece of almost forgotten history.

    “Nàng Tự Do” means “Miss Freedom” in English. The title of the exhibition is drawn from Tự Do (Freedom Magazine), a magazine that was published by the boat people in the camps for their community at that time.
