Duration:
160 mins, filmed in Hong Kong, Shanghai, The United States

Brief Description:
This documentary film about Xi Xi is named after Xi Xi’s own book entitled "Birds of Passage” which relates her autobiography and her development. Born in Shanghai, Xi Xi went through the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War, then settled in Hong Kong. She encountered all kinds of hardships, and overcame them one by one. In the film, Xi Xi’s brother talks about life in Shanghai, and her younger brother (the prototype of the protagonist of "My City") talks about work in Hong Kong. Friends talk about her early writing, her film period, and "Su Ye Press," and also discuss her literary relationship with Taiwan. Other friends respond to Xi Xi’s work through different literary and artistic performances, such as performance, opera, dance, drama, and poetry, painting, installation, sculpture, calligraphy, singing. The film also includes a number of animations, models of former residences, and an introduction to Xi Xi’s hand-sewn bears. Of course, Xixi herself, talks about Shanghai and To Kwa Wan. The end of the film describes Xi Xi’s trip to the United States to accept the Newman Chinese Literature Award.
