Population, Health & Migration
Scholars in the migration, health and population area are interested in the social causes and consequences of the dynamics in mortality, fertility, migration, health and well-being. They study topics such as the causes of labour migration, the migration outcomes of adolescents and young children, migration and family, migration/immigration and health, social networks, social support and health and health disparities. These issues are examined in diverse social contexts such as Hong Kong, China and the US.
One of the major initiatives of the research cluster is the exploration of population issues in China such as population health and the adaptation processes of immigrants. It also aims to understand how immigration affects local labour markets and the regional economy. Emphasis is placed on examining the impact of immigration on health and employment opportunities. The working group provides a platform for participants to share their research findings, present their paper(s) (or work-in-progress) and receive feedback.
