NEW COLLEGE BOARDS OF GOVERNORS / TRUSTEES T h e newly reconstituted Board of Governors of N ew Asia College held its inaugural meeting on the 14th of July, at wh i ch the Ho n. P.Y. T a ng and M r . T s u fa F. Lee were elected Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Board respectively. T h e College Board was recently incorporated by Government Ordinance as a result of the passing of a private b i ll to that effect at the Government Legislative Council on the 12thof July. I n an address to the Board following his election to the Chairmanship, the Ho n. P.Y. Tang, Manag i ng Director of the South Sea Textile Ma n u f a c t u r i ng Co., L t d . and an Unofficial Memb er of the Government Legislative Council, recalled that the founders of the College had always attached great significance to "preserving and propagating the traditional Chinese culture and also t o harmonizing the excellence of Chinese culture w i t h the mainstream and influx of western knowledge and civilization." He asserted that “ i f we devote our efforts consistently and persistently in this direction, we can still contribute our share along this line although our College has now been made one of the Foundation Colleges of the Chinese Un i v e r s i t y ." He further expressed the hope that he " may be of service to the College as a bridge between the University and the Go v e r nme n t ." “ I f an effective liaison can be maintained," he remarked, “ i t may become easier to carry out the objectives of our College, and thus lay the foundation for further development in the f u t u r e ." A t the meeting, D r . Ou Tsuin-chen, President of the College, expressed great pleasure at the establishment of the enlarged Board under the guidance of which, he was certain, the College had every reason to be optimistic about its future development. He thanked the Ho n. P.Y. T a ng for his significant contribution in the incorporation of the College Board by Government Ordinance at the Legislative Council. He concluded his address by pledging, on behalf of the College staff and on his own behalf, unstinted endeavours to implement all policy decisions of the Board. T h e Board appointed an A d Hoc Committee consisting of M r . Ts u fa F. Lee, D r . Ou Tsuin-chen, M r . H . T . Wu , D r . Shen Ye and M r . Tsai Ching-yan, whose task w i ll be to study what committees ought to be set up under the Board and to advise the Board on their establishment and membership. T h e Board also elected M r .
