List of courses that do NOT allow Pass/Fail grading and/or late drop |
Important Information |
a. |
Courses that are opted for Pass/Fail grading will be recorded on transcripts as “P” or “U” only, which may not provide enough information on the academic performance of the student on the courses/subject selected for Pass/Fail grading. When employers, universities, selection panels for scholarships/awards etc. may take into consideration the specific courses and the number of units students have opted for Pass/Fail grading in making decisions for offers on employment, admission to postgraduate studies, scholarships, awards and other opportunities. There were cases in the last academic year (2019-20) where students who had opted for Pass/ Fail option for certain courses were required to provide letter grades for overseas course exemption application or other applications, but the letter grades could not be provided. Therefore, students MUST think very carefully and should consult their academic advisors before making a decision on Pass/Fail grading option, especially for Major courses. |
b. |
The Pass/Fail grades will NOT have any effect on the calculation of students’ grade point average, including Term GPA, Cumulative GPA and, where applicable, Major GPA, which are contributing factors to the assessment of honours classification, and to the progression (i.e. academic standing) and determination of Dean’s lists. |
c. |
For late drop of courses, please also consider the academic progress and the pre-requisite courses that are required for course registration of Term 2 courses. If students do NOT fulfill the pre-requisite for course registration after the late drop, they will NOT be able to register the concerned courses eventually. |

Application in CUSIS for Pass/Fail Grading Option |
Please take note of the following procedures in CUSIS application: |
• |
Students should login CUSIS and select “Applications” in the System, then choose “Pass/Fail Grading (UG)” from 16 November 2020 (10:00a.m. HK Time) – 22 November 2020 (11:59p.m. HK Time). Please observe the instructions in CUSIS and choose the course(s) that opt for Pass/Fail grading. |
• |
The course(s) that students registered in 1st term 2020-21 shown under CUSIS already exclude the courses that are NOT allowed to choose Pass/Fail grading. |
• |
The System will reject the application if the student’s choice of courses exceeds the maximum 6 units (exclusive of Physical Education courses) OR the choice of courses exceeds 1/3 of the Major units that will be used for calculation of Major GPA, according to the Study Scheme of his/her Major Programme. Please refer to Information on One-off Arrangement for Pass/Fail Grading and Late Drop Options for Courses Offered in 1st Term 2020-21 for detail. Students may also approach RES (email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if they need clarification. |
• |
Students are allowed to make changes to the submitted application(s) during the application period. However, ONLY the last submission will be recorded and processed. The last record will be IRREVOCABLE. An acknowledgement email will be sent to students’ campus email account after each submission of applications and it serves as the confirmation of successful submission of the application. |
