More Funds for Research In 1990-91, University staff members obtained some HK$14. 7 million f r om the government to launch research projects in various subject disciplines. This year, the f igure has risen sharply by nearly 100 pe r cent to HK$29.2 million. A Research Committee Supported by Seven Subject Panels To promote research activities w ith in the University and to regularly review its long-term research policies, the University has set up a Research Committee, which is also responsible for coordinating the submission o f research proposals by faculty members to the government fo r funding support. Under the Research Committee seven supporting sub­ ject panels have been formed, each responsible for screening and evaluating research proposals in a particular subject area. They w ill also provide advice and assistance to faculty members in the preparation of research plans and budgets.
