H is Excellency the Chancellor, Sir David Trench, conferred degrees on graduands of the University. Vice-Chancellor Choh-M ing L i addressed the congregation in Mandarin, presenting “ a clear description of the University's organization and the relationships among its elements in the hope that this w ill lead to better understanding and firmer support". A Graduation D inner was held at President Hotel the same evening to give an opportunity fo r the new graduates to meet the Chancellor, members of the University Council and the College Boards of Governors, and leaders of the local community. A t the D inner D r. the Hon. Fung Ping Fan, Member o f the University Council, urged the graduates to "demonstrate to society the real worth of the educa tion given in The Chinese University". Miss Wong Tak-yee (New Asia College) and Miss Lau Chiu- hing (Chung Chi College) spoke on behalf o f the graduates, and M r. Chan Ching-kai (United College) was master of ceremonies fo r the occasion. The 498 graduates this year include 13 Masters o f A rts ， 4 Masters of Commerce, 156 Bachelors of A rts, 117 Bachelors o f Science ， 79 Bachelors of Commerce and 129 Bachelors of Social Science. O f these 83 were awarded marks of distinction: 15 magna c um l aude and 68 c um laude. "Th is university consists o f four parts integrated by a common interest" Eng li s h Ve rs i on o f the V i ce - Chanc el lo r' s Speech We have just seen nearly five hundred graduates receiving the mark of the University before going out into the world of business and the professions. O f these, 17 are from the Graduate School, 156 from the Faculty o f Arts, 117 from the Faculty of Science, and 208 from the Faculty of Commerce and Social Science. O f the total number from the three Facul ties, 176 are from Chung Chi College, 152 from New Asia College and 153 from United College. O f course, they are all students o f the University. In the short space o f a half minute, I have mentioned seven units and all the graduates belong or have belonged to at least two of them. Besides these, there are many other units, and all of them together may present a somewhat bewildering pic ture not only to those outside the University, but even to some staff and students.
