Welcome to the Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability (IEES).
IEES was established in 2011 as a platform for multi- and interdisciplinary research in sustainability science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. With more than 40 fellows from 5 faculties, IEES aims to address some of the most pressing issues confronting the long-term sustainability of human society through research and education in 5 core programmes: Climate and Environmental Changes; Energy Technology and Conservation; Sustainable Environment; Environmental Policy and Governance; and Community Outreach. Together with other cognate research institutes and academic departments, IEES conducts innovative and impactful research to contribute to CUHK’s strategic research theme on Environment and Sustainability.
The Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change (MoCC), established in 2013, is the first museum of its kind in the world that promotes public awareness of the impact of Climate Change as well as champions environmental stewardship, conservation and sustainability. MoCC has since welcomed more than 800,000 visitors and organised numerous outreaching events on Climate Change and environmental sustainability.
IEES also hosts the Environmental Sustainability and Resilience (ENSURE) joint research centre between CUHK and the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, as a part of our international network in research on environmental sustainability.
I invite you to discover our diverse and exciting research work ranging from building environmentally friendly infrastructure for remote villages in China, designing the next generation of efficient solar cells, to modelling the impact of global warming on rainfall pattern in the Greater Bay Area.
