Abstract

Interaction between information-processing theory and problem-solving research has made new advancement in both fields. An information-process system comprising four component stages is instroduced and the operational processes through the stages are described and illustrated. As integral parts of the cognitive system, problem-solving models are interpreted in terms of information-processing theory. Three approaches of problem-solving study such as logical problem, theorem problem, and verbal problem are presented and discussed with supported evidence. The possible reasons for the individual difference in problem-solving abilities are also summarised.
