Course Outline

This course introduces students to the interactions of man and environment in a geographical context. Resource becomes a keen issue due to the growth of population, trade and economy in the age of globalization, particularly in the densely populated cities like Hong Kong. The course focuses on basic geographical concepts and modern techniques in the study of resources issues using various cases in the real world. The role of geography and resource management is emphasized on topical issues that affects lives in modern societies, particularly in this age of globalization. The course will help students to broaden their views in understanding the importance and implications of resources issues in dynamic societies like Hong Kong and the region at large. Lectures will be supplemented with videos from time to time.

Although the concept of globalization has been studied over the years, this course will adopt a systematic approach in order to allow the students to acquire the necessary knowledge on globalization so that they can broaden their horizon in critical thinking. Participants will be able to develop skills that will allow them to be analytical in comprehending basic concepts of resource issues and globalization. With specific examples, students will be able to understand the values of resources and enhance their skills for interpreting relevant planning and management of resources in the society.
