Abstract

The Web has changed the landscape of how humans interact socially. With the advent of Web 2.0, Social Computing has become a new paradigm in ways we communicate, teach, learn, and educate. In this talk, I will first introduce Social Computing and its various platforms such as blogs, wikis, mashups, social bookmarks, etc. and how they can be used in the education environment for teaching and learning. I will highlight other interesting issues such as security, trust, etc. in using these technologies for learning. Lastly, we examine some current challenges and potential future promises of Social Computing in education.
