CUHK and HKU Jointly Develop MARVEL Data Analysis Method to Detect Pathogenic Genes of Hirschsprung’s Disease
Researchers from CUHK and HKU jointly developed a novel data analysis method called MARVEL (Multiscale Analysis of Regulatory Variants on the Epigenomic Landscape) to find out genetic variants that may cause Hirschsprung’s disease.
Risks and Opportunities of AI in Future
Prof. Leung Kwong Sak and Prof. Patrick Lee from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering shared their thoughts on AI development in “United We Advance” (Sep 2020, Vol. 17), published by the United College, CUHK.
New AI Approach by CUHK Engineering Investigates Multiple Gene Regulatory Mechanisms Concurrently for the Advancement of Biomedical Research
The CSE research team has developed a new Gene Expression Embedding frameworK (GEEK), which uses artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in machine learning and natural language processing to study the regulation of gene expression. This new framework can study the joint effects of many regulatory mechanisms simultaneously.
Investigating Click Interception on the Web
The research team led by Professor Wei Meng of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering developed a browser-based analysis framework – Observer, which is able to detect three different techniques for intercepting web user clicks.
AI in Conference to Explore AI Trends and Showcase AI Projects
Conference titled “Enroute to the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)” drew over 100 technology leaders, experts, researchers and government officials to discuss the growing trends of AI and its potential applications.
‘Binocular Tone Mapping’ Provides High-quality 3D Images at a Low-cost
‘Binocular Tone Mapping’ offers users a low-cost and comfortable way to simultaneously perceive both the high contrast as well as the rich texture details at both dark and bright regions, so as to gain an enriched visual experience.
CUHK Faculty of Engineering Achieved Breakthrough in Image Motion Deblurring Technology
Prof. JIA Jiaya has developed a world’s leading image deblurring technology to rectify blurriness in photos caused by lighting and camera shaking. It is more effective and efficient by increasing the image clearness by 100 times, and not more than 10 seconds are needed to process a photo with 1,000,000 pixels.
