The world of music is fantastic and full of contradictions. Familiar music provides comfort while unfamiliar sounds can baffle even experienced music lovers. Inspired by Aaron Copland's famous book What to Listen for in Music, this lecture takes the audience into the intriguing universe of world music. How do we listen to music that is so drastically different from our own? How do we appreciate the beauty in music from a different culture? In this lecture, Frederick Lau will share selected world music examples and offer strategies to uncover their inner musical logic and beauty. Through music, listeners will be provided with another avenue to appreciate the wonders of the world and its multifaceted cultures. |
