Growing up as a Han Chinese in an ethnic minority community in northwest China, I went and got my bachelor’s degree at Dickinson College. During my education, I have developed interests in the intersectionality between gender and other social topics, and I wrote my graduation thesis on analyzing current children’s sexuality education in mainland China. During my college education, I had opportunities of experiencing various internships. I have not only interned an editor within a Chinese feminist nonprofit, but I also worked as a primary project designer in a commercial consulting company.

Despite the great excitements my previous major has brought me, I gradually exhausted by the western centered research methods, perspectives, as well as discussions. The elitism of this field makes me realized the importance of experience from the periphery as well as building bridges between academic and nonacademic. Therefore, I decided to adopt a different perspective – an anthropological one.

I am currently interested in the intersectionality between sexuality and religion. To be more specific, I am curious about the life of a Christian gay community in Southeastern China. Ways they entangle, reinterpret rigorous religious script in their daily practices may help us further understand the nuances of how people identify themselves.
