“The way we live is only one among innumerable ways of life which humans have adopted”. This quote by Eriksen in an introductory book on anthropology perfectly conveys one of the main reasons why I have decided to do my research in Anthropology.

Looking back to my undergraduate and graduate studies, I have had the opportunity to study for some time in both China and Vietnam, studying both languages and cultures, and their cross-country relations. At that time, I collaborated with the Italian online magazine Il Caffè Geopolitico analyzing Vietnamese foreign policy and following the 2016 political elections in Vietnam, and I was an intern at the Embassy of Mexico in Hanoi.

These experiences and my personal background have sparked more interest in learning about the multicultural families in Asia, looking at issues such as identity formation, family dynamics, Chineseness, and what it means to be “mixed”.
