Overview

The Training Course for Ophthalmic Assistant prepares students to assist the professional members of ophthalmic team, including Ophthalmologists, Ophthalmic Nurses, Optometrists and Opticians to provide patient care by performing different eye- and vision-related clinical functions. This training course includes the theoretical components such as basic eye anatomy and common eye disorders. It also covers the practical skills, such as medical history taking and vision assessment, as well as more specialized testing procedures such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and visual field testing.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the participants should be able to
1. Communicate and collaborate effectively as part of an interdisciplinary health care team;
2. Apply an understanding of relevant scientific concepts to ophthalmic care;
3. Assist the Ophthalmologists, Ophthalmic Nurses and Optometrists by performing delegable tasks; and
4. Display professional and ethical behaviors in the health care environment.

Award

A Certificate of Completion will be issued to students who have an attendance not less than 70% and passed the course assessment.
