Reanimation & Rederivation
LASEC offers sperm and embryo cryorecovery services to all CUHK investigators. Transportation of cryopreserved material is often less costly than live animal shipment and relieves the animal welfare concerns associated with shipping live animals.
It offers a number of benefits, including:
Rederivation via embryo transfer has been demonstrated to be an effective technique to ’clean up’ a mouse colony known to be infected with viruses, parasites, and bacteria. Rederivation via embryo transfer involves the aseptic collection of embryos from superovulated, donor females and the surgical transfer to specific pathogen free (SPF) pseudopregnant females for gestation to term. |
Sperm CryorecoveryWe use cryopreserved sperm to perform an IVF using female donors (e.g., C57BL/6). The resulting embryos are transferred to pseudopregnant female.
|
Embryo CryorecoveryWe thaw cryopreserved embryos and transfer them to a pseudopregnant female.
|
Rederivation of Pathogen Infected Colony
We offer rederivation via embryo transfer to decontaminate mice colony known to be infected with viruses, parasites, and bacteria.
