Waterfront Promenade, West Kowloon Cultural District“Growing Up”, the winning design of the first Hong Kong Young Architects and Designers Competition, has been built as a temporary pavilion at the West Kowloon Cultural District waterfront promenade, and is open to the public from March to August 2019.
The design proposal by New Office Works, co-founded by our Adjunct Assistant Professor Paul Tse and Evelyn Ting, captures everyday elements fundamental to Hong Kong, such as steps, walkways, roofs and palm trees, as a way to celebrate and cultivate them in the city’s major arts and cultural hub.
Organised by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, the Competition invited emerging local architects and designers to submit proposals of a pavilion that promotes sustainability and addresses economic and natural resources, while offering a dynamic public space that complements the surrounding landscape and waterfront to enhance visitors’ experience. Out of 320 entries, “Growing Up” was selected as the best design by a jury of 10 leading architects and professionals from Hong Kong and abroad.
