Beau explores the idea of a contextually “anchored”, functionally “open” and materially “supported” architecture. Through the deconstruction of a series of projects, the lecture emphasises the importance of iterative strategies in their practice when it comes to these three points: how to create tension between an original context and its mutated version, how to adopt a relative indifference to the notion of program, how to use materials and construction logics as a narrative supporting the other twos.
About the Speaker:
BEAU Architects was founded in Hong Kong in 2014 by Charlotte Lafont-Hugo and Gilles Vanderstocken. The studio has since evolved into a team of various fields and origin, all contributing to a critical methodology and rigorous production. Since the beginning, their agenda is based on the exploration of archetypes and the application of classical tools through an experimental approach. Their projects, as different they can be, are obsessively articulated around the notions of context, program, materiality and construction. Highly narrative, the resulting body of work displays an expressive austerity questioning the relation between objectives and the means to achieve them.
The lecture will be conducted in English. All non-CUHK participants are required to register here.
