Professional School Improvement Programme – Local Primary Schools

Local primary schools are continually facing several internal and external challenges in reforming the curriculum and instruction, as well as the assessment mechanism.

Internally, school leaders are busy seeking ground-breaking enhancement of teaching and learning effectiveness through strengthening the professional capacity of middle managers; increasing their knowledge and skill of conducting collaborative lesson planning and observation. In addition, the rising need for professional development of middle managers will continue until the all-graduate teaching force policy is fully implemented.

Externally, the teachers are inspired by the global trends in the education reforms, which include (1) fostering self-directed learning, (2) aligning learning, teaching and assessment with the intended learning outcome, and (3) facilitating integration and application of knowledge and skills across disciplines/curricular.

To address the above challenges, QSIP is eager to collaborate with local primary schools by adopting the philosophy of comprehensive school improvement. We pay careful attention to the group dynamics at the school level, departmental subject level and teacher level, and the roles they play in school improvement. Our ultimate goal is to equip teachers with the knowledge and skill to make positive changes in their teaching, as well as to establish a self-improving mechanism and culture conducive to improvement.
