Brief Description
The Bhagavad Gita, composed some 2500 years ago, is a world classic and is considered by many the "Indian Bible".  Dr. Ithamar Theodor approaches this ancient text with a modern mind, locating his study within Comparative Theology and identifying the various layers of meaning in the text that will help those unacquainted with it to find their way through this complex classic.

At the book talk, Dr. Theodor will give an overview of the Gita and talk about the universal relevance of the Gita teaching, its place in Indian culture and its relation to Chinese Thoughts.

About the Speaker
Dr. Theodor is a scholar of Hinduism and currently a visiting scholar at CUHK. His main works are on the Bhagavad Gita and the Bhagavata Purana.

He is interested in introducing Indian Culture and Religion to the people of Hong Kong and beyond, and building bridges between Classical Indian Culture and Classical Chinese Culture through Comparative Philosophy.  His recent publication Exploring the Bhagavad Gita: Philosophy, Structure and Meaning, was named a Choice Outstanding Academic Title for 2011.
