A taste of arts and history of 19th Century
Students study European art and its history through visiting a number of world-famous museums and galleries.
In the summer of 2018, eight CUHK students participated in the History of European Art and Art History summer school organised by Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich (LMU Munich). Comprising seminars and tours to museums and sites in Munich and Prague, it provided an introduction on the history of European art since antiquity and the formation of art history as an academic discipline in the 19th Century. Offering for the first time, the summer school is part of the programme of the LMU-China Academic Network (LMU-ChAN) to which CUHK is an anchor partner.
During the two-week programme, students witnessed art history through the ages at world-famous sites including Neuschwanstein Castle, Green Vault, Museum Glyptothek, among others. ‘The summer school has really widened my horizons by bringing me to visit new places. I have learned to appreciate art in real life through a more hands-on experience,’ one of the CUHK participants, Ken Lau from the Department of History expressed.
