An enriching and enjoyable summer at CUHK

ISS 2018 attracts over 500 students from around the world to the CUHK campus for an intensive academic and cultural experience. 

Organised by the Office of Academic Links (OAL), the CUHK International Summer School (ISS) 2018 was held from late June to early August and was the 14th edition of the programme since it was first offered in 2004. This year, ISS welcomed over 500 international students to the CUHK campus to join the programme’s July and August Sessions together with local CUHK students for a vigorous academic and cultural experience. The five-and-a-half-week July Session offered more than 20 courses in the areas of Business & Management, China Studies, Chinese Language (Cantonese and Putonghua), Environment, Science & Technology, and Humanities & Social Science, while the three-week August Session provided intensive Putonghua training for its participants.

During the summer, OAL also hosted over 320 secondary and high school students from Hong Kong and beyond at the CUHK campus for the two-week CUHK Summer Institute (SI) between 11 to 27 July. Participants of the SI had a taste of their upcoming life as an undergraduate student by taking part in short courses in a wide array of university disciplines. What’s more, starting from this year, some of the courses available at SI have become credit-bearing and could be counted towards the participants’ undergraduate studies should they enrol in CUHK in the future. The programme also provided opportunities for its participants to experience living in student hostels, get advice from student ambassadors who are current CUHK undergraduates, and make new friends at its orientation and graduation camps.
