Themed ‘Solving Problems through Collaborative Research’, the 4th Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Vice Presidents for Research Meeting was held in October 2018 at the University of California, San Diego. CUHK was represented by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Fanny Cheung at the meeting, where she spoke on the session ‘Building Multidisciplinary Research within Academic Institutions’ with representatives from the University of Sydney, the University of British Columbia and University of California, Davis. They engaged in a lively conversation exchange about the multidisciplinary research outputs by the region’s top universities, focusing on issues such as expediting strategic initiatives and the necessity of the role that leadership plays in combining STEM and Social Sciences and Humanities research.

The aim of the meeting is to share best practices amongst participants from government, academia, and research community, as well as to exchange views on issues related to research policies, funding, technological transfer, and enterprise.

As the only network of leading universities linking the Americas, Asia and Australasia, APRU is the Voice of Knowledge and Innovation for the Asia-Pacific region. With a membership of 50 research universities, it brings together thought leaders, researchers, and policy-makers to exchange ideas and collaborate on effective solutions to the challenges of the 21st Century.

CUHK has been actively engaged in the activities of APRU. Faculty members are encouraged to engage in the work of APRU to build and strengthen their international research and network.
