Brain Research Centre
The Brain Research Centre was established in 1999 for the brain research cooperation between Faculty of Medicine, CUHK and China, after a first meeting between neuroscience colleagues from China and Hong Kong in New Asia College. After that, it was suggested that the Academy of Military Medical Sciences of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Department of Anatomy, Chinese University of Hong Kong would take the lead and a memorandum was subsequently signed by Prof. Sydney Chung, Dean of Faculty of Medicine CUHK and General Da-Sheng Zhao, Director of Academy of Military Medical Sciences (軍事醫學研究所) of the PLA and a plaque was erected in the Department of Anatomy, officiated by the then Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof Kenneth Young on behalf of the Chinese university. Prof. David Yew became the director of this Brain Research Centre. The centre was one of the first joint research centres officiated in Prof. Chung’s period for partnership with research units in China. As time goes by, the Centre had partners from various institutions in China to foster Neuroscience collaborative research and these include military institutes, universities as well as industrial agents. Starting from 2017, the Brain Research Centre has become a member of School of Chinese Medicine.
