Collective wisdom to rise to challenges posed by COVID-19

The APRU Annual Presidents Meeting brings 150 delegates together to discuss how institutions should respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Annual Presidents Meeting took place virtually in June. It saw participation from 150 delegates, including some 40 university presidents, who deliberated strategies and measures in response to challenges brought by COVID-19, particularly on launching online teaching and providing different forms of support to students, as well as planning for the ‘new normal’ in a post-COVID-19 environment. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rocky S. Tuan was one of the speakers in the session ‘What Will the Future Be and What We Can Do’ where he introduced the Virtual Student Exchange Program for students of APRU member universities, allowing them to continue their international education and experience without leaving home.

Separately, Prof. Vivian Lee, Associate Professor in the Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research at CUHK, spoke in APRU’s ‘Teaching in Virtual Environments: Authentic Experiential Education’ webinar on 4 September 2020. Using the nursing clinical clerkship as an example, she shared with the audience her experience in delivering experiential learning through virtual means.
