PVC Research shares insights on COVID-19’s impacts on research at Virtual THE Live Asia

Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research), joined other Asian university and business leaders in the Virtual Times Higher Education (THE) Live Asia 2020 on 3 June 2020, discussing how universities have been transformed by the COVID-19 pandemic in teaching, research and other areas. The event attracted over 1,800 delegates from more than 70 countries.

Speaking on the panel ‘Building Resilience via Collaboration during, and after, COVID-19’, Prof. Cheung raised the need to adopt an inter-disciplinary approach on research related to COVID-19 as the pandemic has given rise to many inter-related issues such as communications, economic fallout, geopolitical tensions, prejudice, and psychological wellbeing, in addition to medicine and health.

‘The challenge of COVID-19 and future novel infectious diseases provide the context for research institutions to reflect on the past and future research directions. At CUHK, inter-disciplinary and international collaboration and the interface between innovation and impact are emphasised in the strategic research approaches,’ Prof. Cheung said.
