To strengthen its international engagement and the learning experience of its students, CUHK actively pursues new opportunities to develop innovative teaching collaborations with leading universities around the world. Recently, CUHK and Waseda University (Waseda), Japan signed a MOU that establishes a framework for the two universities to collaborate in dual degree programmes, with an initial focus on social science disciplines to cultivate all-round global leaders in Asia. Participating students will spend the first two years at their home institution and the last two years at the partner university, and will be awarded with a bachelor’s degree from each university upon successful completion of the graduation requirements.

The dual degree programmes will allow students to benefit from the quality teaching of the two universities, experience different cultures and learning environments, and build their global competencies and competitiveness. The first programme pairing CUHK’s BSSc in Global Studies Programme and Waseda’s BA in Social Science – Transnational and Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Innovation started this academic year. Another dual degree programme with Waseda’s BA in International Liberal Studies Programme is under planning.

CUHK and Waseda have a long history of collaboration with the first formal partnership established in 2002. The two universities have since developed multi-faceted partnerships, covering student and faculty exchange. Both universities are founding members of the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education and part of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities.
