Welcoming ministerial visits from Singapore and Ireland

CUHK representatives and the Singapore government delegates.

Recognised for its excellence in teaching and research, CUHK had the honour to host two ministerial visits from Singapore and Ireland with the aims of showcasing the strengths of the University and exploring ways to strengthen ties with institutions in the respective countries.

On 28 May 2019, CUHK welcomed a 34-member delegation from Singapore led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr. HENG Swee Keat. During the visit, representatives of CUHK, led by Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Acting Vice-Chancellor, shared the University’s research, innovation and enterprise initiatives, particularly relating to the growing science and technology opportunities in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. There was also discussion on how government, industry, and academic institutions may work closer together to advance innovation development. CUHK was the only higher education institution in Hong Kong visited by the Singapore delegation on this trip.

Back in March 2019, a 9-member delegation led by Mr. Joe McHugh, Minister for Education and Skills of Ireland, comprising Mr. Eoin O’Leary, Ambassador of Ireland to China, Mr. David Costello, Consul General of Ireland to Hong Kong and Macau, and representatives from the Department of Education and Skills, and Enterprise Ireland, visited CUHK to learn about its education system and the programmes of the Faculty of Education. The delegation also paid a visit to a class of Gaelic football on campus, as CUHK is the only university in Hong Kong that offers a course on the traditional Irish sport.
