Recapping the academic seminar “秘密社會的秘密：自我合法化與其在中國社會虛擬的影響” conducted by Prof. HE Xi on 18 September 2015.
Prof. HE Xi shared her research about the secret societies. She believed that the Heaven and Earth Society is properly one variety of the popular “brotherhood association” in local Chinese society and “secret” is the core element of organizing these associations. The so-called huge influence caused by Heaven and Earth Society in mid-Qing China is highly related to the narrative of the central officials and the emperor’s attitude.
