Vice-Chancellor speaks on future of universities in Asia

Prof. Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, took part in a special dialogue titled ‘The Future of Universities in Asia’ with Prof. C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University, India on 7 August 2020. Hosted by O.P. Jindal Global University, the special dialogue was part of the two-day Global Virtual Conference ‘Reimaging & Transforming the University: Confluence of Ideas During & Beyond COVID-19’.

Though Asia has emerged as the future hub of education, there remains issues of skewed educational development in Asia with countries like China and Singapore leading the way, while many countries in South and South East Asia are lagging behind. The current COVID-19 pandemic has also challenged some South-Asian countries harder than the more developed ones.

During the dialogue, the two vice-chancellors discussed the various educational models in Asia, ways to promote international collaboration and inter-cultural exchange in higher education, and means to address disparity in the educational development in Asia in the context of the pandemic, among many critical issues in higher education. Besides, they shared their vision on the future of Asian universities.
