Hear it from Experts : Marathon Route Analysis

There is less than one month to go before the 2016 Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon. Following the video in the last issue in which Mr. Daniel Lee, lecturer from the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education, shared useful tips for nearly 3,000 CUHK runners, in this video, Mr. Chan Chi-ming, lecturer from the Physical Education Unit, has been invited to analyze the 10km route of the race and suggest phase by phase strategies for runners.

On 19 December, CUHK Marathon Team arranged seminars conducted by professionals from the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education, and the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. Topics included “Commonly Encountered Sports Injuries in a Marathon”, “11 Tips for Preventing Running Injuries” and “The Science of Endurance Running”. CUHK runners are welcome to download the slides used in the seminars from the CUHK Marathon Team website.

At the moment, CUHK Marathon Team is recruiting cheerers to show support for CUHK runners. All CUHK students, staff, and alumni are welcome to join in for what promises to be a fun-filled day at Hong Kong’s biggest annual sporting event. Cheerers will receive a CUHK marathon polo shirt and a souvenir cap. Shuttle bus services will also be arranged from the campus to various cheering points.

Bringing Warmth to the Homeless

On 12 December, volunteers from CUHK • Care service team joined the social service "Provide Warmth to Homeless People", organized by Strategic CSR Network, to deliver meal boxes and daily necessities to the homeless in Yau Tsim Mong District.

Led by social workers, the volunteers walked from Tai Kok Tsui to Yau Ma Tei to visit the homeless people at different sites in the district, such as shelters under bridges, subways and parks. For many volunteers, it was the first time they had visited homeless people. Through social service, they not only showed their care by delivering the meal boxes, but also got to know the stories and the living condition of the homeless.

Founded in 2013, CUHK • Care Service Team comprises students, staff, alumni and friends of CUHK. The team aims to bring together CUHK members’ time and capabilities to contribute to our society through the University’s benevolent, humanist culture. All are welcome to register as a member of CUHK • Care Service Team.
