Angela Kim is a PhD candidate at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Law. She is currently conducting research on her thesis, titled “State Succession in the Case of a Unified Korea: The Legal Effects on Treaties and the Rights of Third States,” with her research interests lying in public international law, treaty law, and international legal perspectives on Korean unification.
Angela received her Master of Laws from the George Washington University Law School in 2015 with a specialization in International and Comparative Law, and her Bachelor of Laws from Handong Global University in 2014.
In 2018, Angela was accepted as a visiting scholar at the George Washington Institute for Korean Studies and the George Washington University Law School where she conducted research related to her thesis for 8 months in the District of Columbia. Angela is also an active member of the District of Columbia Bar.
State Succession in the Case of a Unified Korea: The Legal Effects on Treaties and the Rights of Third States, co-supervised by Professors Stephen HALL and Stuart HARGREAVES.
Angela is interested in public international law, treaty law and the international legal perspectives of a Korean unification. With her thesis, she hopes to determine the legal effects on pre-existing bilateral treaties of the DPRK with other State parties as well on the rights of third States post-Korean unification in the realm of international law.
