New Book Release by the Department of History, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Anniversary Volume 《貫古通今 融東會西:扎根史學五十年》 as part of the Department’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, has recently been published.

The Editorial Committee will give away 50 copies of the book to alumni of the Department. Please email the following information (name, graduation year, programme name and contact number) to fionachan@arts.cuhk.edu.hk if you would like to receive a copy of the book. The book will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. Alumni who have registered shall collect the book in person from the Department of History by 30 December 2016. Collection after the designated date will not be entertained.

Academic Activities

Recapping the “Kyoto University-CUHK History Student Cultural Exchange Seminar” held on 19 August 2016

With the welcome speech delivered by Prof. LAI Ming Chiu, Department Chairman, the “Kyoto University-CUHK History Student Cultural Exchange Seminar” was held at G24 of Fung King Hey Building. Eleven undergraduate students from Kyoto University visited the Department and participated in the seminar and gave presentations on two topics: “Tourism Industry of Hong Kong and Japan” and “Demonstrations of Hong Kong and Japan”. Presentations were also made by 15 undergraduate students from the Department and 3 students from United College on the following four topics: “How Daily Transportation Reflects Culture? An Insight into Minibus of Hong Kong”, “Changes in Transportation Development in Hong Kong”, “Culture and History of Chinese Characters” and “Why Does Japanese Culture Highly Emphasise Manners and Courtesy? Reasons Behind the Etiquette of Japanese”. Students from both universities greatly enjoyed the presentations and discussions at the seminar and the fellowship dinner afterwards.
