Distinguished Visitor Robert Fisk Concludes College Visit

2016年311日

This week, The Independent's Middle East Correspondent Robert Fisk has been Morningside’s Distinguished Visitor. On Wednesday he gave a dinner talk entitled “Don't believe what you read in the papers:  The 'Islamic State', Syria and the Middle East”, and on Thursday, he gave a public lecture entitled “Reporting the Middle East: the Arab Awakening and Life after the ‘Islamic State’”. Both criticized the current narrative of ISIS; Fisk explained that the refugees pouring into Europe—and not the arms of ISIS—represent a triumph over the group. The violence throughout the region has less to do with a desire to cause terror, and more to do with a rejection of the last century of Western intervention. Followed by numerous questions by students and guests alike, the talks have made Fisk’s visit an enthralling time for all.
