王永雄博士榮獲提名第一屆大學教育資助委員會(教資會)傑出教學獎

簡介

大學教育資助委員會（教資會）於2011年設立傑出教學獎，表揚教資會資助院校老師的傑出教學表現和成就，以及他們為提升教與學質素所作出的貢獻及所表現的領導才幹。香港中文大學通識教育基礎課程副主任王永雄博士獲提名競逐獎項。2011年12月1日，中大舉行第六十九屆大會（頒授學位典禮），沈祖堯校長在大會上頒發獎項予王永雄博士，肯定了他的教學成就與貢獻。

認識自己，這就是通識教育的目的。通識教育是痛苦的，因為它要求我們誠實面對自己的本相；但通識老師絕不是旁觀者，他更要先踏出第一步，帶領學生一起離開洞穴，儘管他們不一定願意。

王永雄博士畢業於香港中文大學，主修物理學，獲理學士、哲學碩士及哲學博士學位。王博士對神學有濃厚興趣，於2004年取得信義宗神學院基督教研究碩士學位。他的學術興趣包括理論物理、通識教育、科學與宗教的對話。

自1996年起，王博士留校於物理系執教。2009年，大學組織團隊，為將於2012年全面推行之「通識教育基礎課程」做準備工作，其中包括課程設計、試行、推行；王博士於是年調任至大學通識教育部。通識教育基礎課程由兩科目組成：「與人文對話」及「與自然對話」。王博士現時擔任通識教育基礎課程副主任，負責設計及推行「與自然對話」一科。課程現已試行幾次，學生的反應十分理想。

王博士自任教於物理系以來，一直對中大通識教育貢獻良多。他除了參與多項課程的發展，更積極投入課堂外的通識活動，例如舉辦科普講座、撰寫科普著作。王博士於2006年獲頒首屆通識教育模範教學獎。2008年，他更獲頒校長模範教學獎。

 Dr Wong Wing Hung nominated for the 1st UGC Teaching Award

Brief Description

The University Grants Committee (UGC) established the UGC Teaching Award in 2011 to honour academics in the UGC-funded institutions for their teaching performance and achievements, as well as their leadership in and scholarly contribution to teaching and learning within and across institutions. Associate Director of General Education Foundation Programme Dr Wong Wing Hung was among the 16 outstanding nominees from various institutions. At the 69th Congregation of CUHK, Vice-Chancellor Professor Sung presented award to Dr Wong to recognize his teaching excellence.

“Know myself!” This is the purpose of general education. General education is painful because it requires us to face our true self, but by no means is the teacher a spectator—he should take the first step and lead the students to leave the cave, even they may be unwilling.

Dr Wong Wing Hung received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has a deep interest in theology. In 2004, he was awarded a Master degree of Christian Studies by the Lutheran Theological Seminary. His academic interests include theoretical physics, general education and the dialogue between science and religion.

He began teaching in Department of Physics, CUHK in 1996. In 2009, he transferred to the Office of University General Education, when the core team was being assembled to design, pilot and implement the General Education Foundation (GEF) Programme for the new curriculum to all new students starting 2012. The GEF Programme consists of two courses, namely In Dialogue with Humanity and In Dialogue with Nature. As one of the two Associate Directors of the GEF Programme, Dr Wong is responsible for the course In Dialogue with Nature (now affectionately known as DIANA). The course has been piloted several times, receiving very positive feedbacks from the students.

Dr Wong has contributed a lot to the general education of CUHK since he taught in Department of Physics. Apart from course development, he has also great involvement in general education activities beyond the classroom, such as giving talks and writing books on popular science. Dr Wong was awarded the first Exemplary Teaching Award in General Education in 2006. In 2008, he was granted the Vice Chancellor Exemplary Teaching Award.
