Minor is an elective course (Curriculum
and Instruction Domain) and students are
allowed to take only ONE minor. Information
related to minor applications would be announced
to admitted students in late July/ early August. Each minor has a quota limit
and selection criteria are based on
students’ major/minor in university
studies and/or public exam results, e.t.c. |

|
* The programme
structure will be reviewed regularly to
meet the ever-changing needs arising from
social and educational development.

Teaching Practicum
|
|
Teaching Practicum (TP) is an
integral part of the Programme. Through TP,
students can enhance their teaching quality
and professional development. During the TP
period, the Faculty’s TP supervisors will
visit students in their TP schools and
support their professional development
through assessment, taking into
consideration their teaching performance as
well as their professional behaviour and
attitude. |
|
Arrangement of
Teaching Practicum
|
|
Full-time Programme:
Students are
required to complete a 10-week TP within
the study period. Students (except English
majors) will have two blocks of TP and
each block lasts for five weeks (including
preparation week). English majors will
have one block of TP in the second term.
Each student will be assigned to a TP
school by the Faculty. Experienced
teachers in TP schools will be invited to
act as Mentors to provide
students with guidance and supervision
within the entire TP period.
|
|
Part-time Programme:
Teaching
Students will
carry out TP at their serving schools
throughout the two years of study. If a
teaching post is not secured during their
study, students may be required to apply
for deferred admission or suspension of
studies. Students are required to look for
a teaching practicum school by themselves.
|
|
Non-teaching
Students
admitted via non-teaching mode should
complete 2 blocks of 4-5 consecutive weeks
of TP within 2 years, and complete the
first block in their first year of study.
TP schools will be arranged by the Office of
School Partnership and Community Engagement and students should make themselves
available for the assigned TP period.

Immersion Programme (Applicable to Full-time English Majors Only)
|
|
Due to Hong Kong SAR Government’s drive to improve and enhance the quality of English language teachers in Hong Kong, students doing a one-year full-time PGDE programme majoring in English with all tertiary institutes in Hong Kong are required to complete a six-to-eight-week overseas immersion programme during their study period. Immersion programme aims to enhance students' competence in using English as a means of communication; allow students to gain first-hand experience and knowledge of cultures of English speaking countries; and to expand students' exposure to educational practices overseas. Students will be barred from graduation if they do not fulfill the requirement.
A large part of the total immersion cost will be subsidized by the Government. Students are required to contribute the remaining amount of the total immersion cost, up to HK$10,000. Non-local students have to pay the full fee, around HK$55,000. Visa application fee, daily expenses (e.g. weekdays lunches and daily transport costs in the immersion site), costs of extra activities, and/or medical insurance will be borne by students. The programme is usually held between early November and mid-December every year.
