  • Master of Chinese Medicine in Hong Kong was initiated by the School of Chinese Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2000. As a medicine-related master programme in CUHK, it provides advanced training in Chinese Medicine for University graduates. Different from Hong Kong’s Master of Medicine programme, it focuses on an integration of traditional Chinese Medicine with biomedical science, of theoretical teaching with clinical practice, of clinical skills with scientific research skills, and of theoretical knowledge with clinical attachment. The 4 year full time master programme is composed of pre-clinical courses of 3 years plus clinical attachment of 1 year.

In Hong Kong, Master of Chinese Medicine in CUHK is a unique programme which allows graduates to sit for the Chinese Medicine Practitioners Licensing Examination conducted by the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Council upon graduation, hence to become a recognised Chinese Medicine Practitioners.

The practice of Chinese Medicine in Hong Kong is regulated by the Chinese Medicine Ordinance. It has become a major part in protecting public health through its professional standard and the self-regulated trade of Chinese medicines profession and service. Registered Chinese medicine practitioners should comply a list of the professional codes of practice, which cover discipline, professional responsibility and ethics, practising criteria and other key areas. The statutory body established under the Chinese Medicine Ordinance is the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong.
