Department Scholarship

  1. Department of Statistics Scholarships (統計學系獎學金) 

The Department of Statistics offers admission and academic excellence scholarships in recognition of students' outstanding academic performance. For academic year 2019-20, 40 scholarships shall be awarded to: 

  • Six full-time first-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (Statistics programme) on the basis of admission results. The amount is HK$10,000 each. 
  • Two full-time first-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (RMSC programme) on the basis of admission results. The amount is HK$10,000 each. 
  • Six full-time second-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (Statistics programme) on the basis of the students’ first-year academic results obtained after admission to the Statistics programme. The amount is HK$2,000 each. 
  • Two full-time second-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (RMSC programme) on the basis of the students’ first-year academic results obtained after admission to the RMSC programme. The amount is HK$2,000 each. 
  • Two full-time second-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (Statistics or RMSC programme) on the basis of the students’ first-year academic results obtained after admission to the Statistics or RMSC programme. The amount is HK$2,000 each. 
  • Six full-time third-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (Statistics programme) on the basis of the students’ second-year academic results obtained after admission to the Statistics programme. The amount is HK$2,000 each. 
  • Two full-time third-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (RMSC programme) on the basis of the students’ second-year academic results obtained after admission to the RMSC programme. The amount is HK$2,000 each. 
  • Two full-time third-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (Statistics or RMSC programme) on the basis of the students’ second-year academic results obtained after admission to the Statistics or RMSC programme. The amount is HK$2,000 each. 
  • Six full-time final-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (Statistics programme) on the basis of the students’ penultimate year academic results. The amount is HK$2,000 each. 
  • Two full-time final-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (RMSC programme) on the basis of the students’ penultimate year academic results. The amount is HK$2,000 each. 
  • Two full-time final-year undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (Statistics or RMSC programme) on the basis of the students’ penultimate year academic results. The amount is HK$2,000 each. 

 

  1. Fan Fang Qi Ying Memorial Scholarship (范方啟英紀念獎學金) and Fan Fang Qi Ying Memorial Bursary (范方啟英紀念助學金) 

Professor Gu Ming Gao (顧鳴高教授) has kindly pledged to donate HK$1 million to The Chinese University of Hong Kong for offering a number of awards to the undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics. 

Number and Value of Awards in 2019/20

For Scholarship, there will be up to three awards of HK$5,000 each per annum. Maximum one award each will be offered to the second, third and fourth year students. 
For Bursary, there will be up to one new award of HK$10,000 per annum. Maximum tenure of the Bursary is 4 years. 

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Scholarship, the candidates must: 

  • be full-time undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics; 
  • be in their second, third or fourth year of study; and 
  • have attained a Year GPA of at least 3.0 in the previous academic year. 

To be eligible for the Bursary, the candidate must: 

  • be a full-time undergraduate freshman of the Department of Statistics; and 
  • have demonstrable financial need. 

The Bursary is tenable up to a maximum of 4 years subject to the following renewal conditions: 

  • The awardee remains a registered full-time student of the Department of Statistics throughout the tenure of the Bursary. 
  • The awardee has achieved a Year GPA of at least 2.7 in the previous academic year. 
  • The awardee has demonstrable financial need. 

 

  1. To Cho Fong Statistics Prize

Award for the Department of Statistics (1 award of $2,900 in 2019/20) 

Requirement: For a full-time undergraduate student who has achieved the most outstanding academic results in Statistic major programme specializing in the stream of Data Science and Business Statistics in the previous year. 

 

  1. CUHK Statistics Alumni Scholarship (香港中文大學統計學系校友獎學金)

Number and Value of Awards in 2019/20 

The Admission Scholarship will be up to three awards of HK$10,000 each per annum. 
The Academic Excellence Scholarship will be up to three awards of HK$5,000 per annum. 

Eligibility 

To be eligible for the Admission Scholarship, the candidates must: 

  • be full-time undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (Major in STAT or RMSC or QFRM); 
  • be in first year of study; 
  • have obtained outstanding admission results; and 
  • Preference will be given to those with demonstrable financial need. 

To be eligible for the Academic Excellence Scholarship, the candidates must: 

  • be full-time undergraduate students of the Department of Statistics (Major in STAT or RMSC or QFRM); 
  • be in second, third or fourth year of study; 
  • have attained a Year GPA of at least 3.3 in the previous academic year; and 
  • Preference will be given to those with demonstrable financial need.
