Jeffrey Hill is a Professional Consultant in the Faculty of law, who has over 20 years of experience teaching law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He teaches on the LLB, JD and PCLL programmes.
Jeff was called to the Bar of England and Wales by Gray’s Inn in 1997. After call, Jeff worked as an adjunct lecturer at a number of institutions, before taking up a post as Legal Adviser/employed barrister at Oxford Magistrates’ Court. During these years, Jeff advised Magistrates in criminal and family courts across Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley and also had responsibility for Football Banning Order cases and taxation of costs from central funds.
Jeff was Senior Lecturer in Law at Manchester Law School, Manchester Metropolitan University, for over 15 years, where he still holds the post of Visiting Senior lecturer. Over the years, he taught many subjects, including criminal law, mooting, family law, tort and public law. In 2017, he was nominated by Manchester Law School for the UK Law Teacher of the Year award.
Prior to his appointment in the Faculty of Law, Jeff was a Visiting Lecturer at Hong Kong University for 15 years, where he lectured in criminal law and tort.
Jeff’s primary teaching and writing interests are in the fields of criminal law, mooting and family law. He is the author of A Practical Guide to Mooting, the second edition of which is due for publication in 2021. He is also the editor of a range of criminal law and litigation manuals/materials for CILEx Law School.
Jeff has coached many successful mooting and advocacy teams, in the following competitions:
