Mr. LI, Kar Lok Carlos is a Ph.D. Candidate (Part Time) at the Faculty of Law, Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research interests are financial law, M&A, international investment law, energy law, IP/TMT law, litigation, ISDS and ADR. In the meantime, he is a trainee solicitor at Alan Lam, Yam & Pe, Solicitors in association with Wong Poon Chan Law & Co. and AH Lawyers and his training areas include M&A, Property, IP, Litigation, ADR and Family. Before commencing his Ph.D. at CUHK, Carlos was the PCLL graduate and obtained a Juris Doctor degree from CUHK. He also did MA in Transport Policy and Planning from The University of Hong Kong, MSc in International Shipping and Transport Logistics and BA (Hons) in Tourism Management from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. At present, Carlos is a member of various organizations including The Law Society of Hong Kong, International Association of Young Lawyers, The Law Association for Asia and The Pacific, Asian Academy of International Law, HK45 under Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, American Bar Association, Institute for Transnational Arbitration, the Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong etc. Further, he serves the editorial board of International Law and Technology Interoperability Association and ICAC Club member of Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption etc. He earlier gained considerable experience in transport operation, management and regulation while working for China Shipping Container Lines Agency Co. Ltd, a top 10 global container shipping company. He was general manager of operations department, in charge of port and marine operations, stowage and cargo operations, equipment control and transshipment. Besides, Carlos was a police constable (aux) of Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force from 2004-2012.
THESIS TOPIC

Financing Renewable Energy Investments: Financial and Economic Regulations in Solar, Wind, Waste-To-Energy and Hydropower, co-supervised by Professors David C. DONALD and Fernando DIAS SIMÕES.

RESEARCH INTERESTS AND AIMS
I am interested in financial law, M&A, international investment law, energy law, IP/TMT law, litigation, ISDS and ADR. Under the threat of climate change, the aim of my research is to offer a deeper insight through comprehensive researches into the legal aspects of financing renewable energy investments so as to appropriately address the legal concerns of investors and attract their capitals to such novel investments in the hope of improving the ecological systems and attaining the sustainable economic development in Hong Kong and the GBA.
