Louise Jones (李露絲) joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong as University Librarian in January 2013. She holds an undergraduate degree in psychology from Manchester University, an MA in Information Studies, and an MPA from Warwick University. Ms Jones has worked in UK libraries for more than 25 years, starting as a library assistant at Oxford University’s Bodleian Library and becoming Director of Library Services at the University of Leicester before moving to CUHK. She has extensive experience of library design, having opened a multi-award winning University Library at Leicester in 2008. She also has a professional interest in performance management and chaired a UK strategy group on Library Performance and Improvement. In 2012, under her leadership, the University of Leicester Library won the national Times Higher Education ‘Outstanding Library Management Team’ award. For many years she has been concerned with cultural understanding and exchange between China and the West, stemming from her first job after graduation as an English Language teacher in North East China. She worked as a librarian for a charity promoting Anglo-Chinese understanding, led tour groups to China in the 1980s, and helped establish a ‘Festival of Chinese Arts’ in London, working with the local Chinese community. More recently she worked with the University of Leicester’s Chinese Student Association to hold an exhibition on Chinese culture for the public at a local museum. |
