Thesis Title The Domestic Politics of Maoist Sports |
Summary of Thesis Project Mao era is the period when the modern sports culture emerging of previous decades further became a form of mass culture and part of the regular practice and normative modern conceptual landscape for hundreds of millions of people. By doing case studies on some different sports events, my thesis studies how Maoist sports culture and its governance structure played out internally in urban context. Through analyzing the unique politics sports operated, I strive to appreciate a more complicated domestic sports politics and explores the multiple logics of early PRC state-building, state-society relations and daily social interaction than has been possible thus far. |
