A new publication by Dr. Si Yang (our PhD graduate), Prof. Joyce Ma (Dr. Si Yang’s thesis supervisor) and Dr. Zhang Jie (Xi’an Children’s Hospital) on “Factors Influencing Parenting Stress among Chinese Families of Children with Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder” has been published online in Children and Youth Services Review, an SSCI (Q1) journal. The journal is an interdisciplinary forum for critical scholarship regarding service programs for children and youth.
This paper, written on the basis of Dr. Si’s doctoral study in Xi’an, reports the results of a one-time survey among Chinese families of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (n = 314) and families with typically developing children (n = 308) in mainland China. The paper aimed to examine the effects of the parenting role, work-family conflicts, child ADHD symptoms, parental depression, anxiety, and somatization, parenting alliance, and social support on parenting stress. Implications for social work practice and service development were also discussed.
