A new publication by Prof. Wallace Chan and his team (including Prof. Chan Sun On from the School of Biomedical Sciences, CUHK) titled “Communication with Family Concerning Body Donation in Hong Kong: What Do We Know?” has been published online in Health and Social Care in the Community, an SSCI (Q1) journal which publishes systematic and narrative reviews, policy analysis and empirical qualitative or quantitative papers including papers that focus on professional or patient education.
The article describes a survey involving the registered donors of the “Body Donation Program”, and examines the communication on the decision to donate their bodies after death between registered donors and their families. This study shows that around 15.6% of the participants did not disclose their body donation decision to family members, and among those who communicated with family members, about one-third only informed family members of their decisions after registration.
