Prof. Joyce Ma (PI) has received a grant of HK$960,343.20 from New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association for the provision of family-based training, consultation and research services for Jockey Club Embracing H.O.P.E.S. Project. Team member includes Mrs. Monica Yau.
The study will develop a 26-month family centered intervention comprising family therapy and multiple family therapy for Chinese families of depressive parents in Hong Kong with children under the age of 18. Objectives of the study are (i) to develop a clinically useful, culturally relevant and socially effective model of family-centered intervention, which comprises of family therapy and multiple family therapy, for Chinese families of depressive parents with children under 18 in Hong Kong; (ii) to assess the applicability and treatment efficacy of family centered intervention in helping Chinese families with a parent or parents in recovery of depression; (iii) to equip the agency social workers with family centered intervention knowledge and deepen their professional competence in helping the target clientele; and (iv) to identify theories of change and procedures of effective knowledge transfer of family-centered intervention for families of a member suffering from depression from both qualitative and quantitative data collected throughout the research process.
