Robbie Short graduated from Yale College in May 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in history. His academic interests include 19th- and 20th-century migrations between Asia and North America, with specific interests in the histories of race and language in and around Asian American communities in the United States. His senior essay explored the connections between Japanese Americans' mass incarceration during World War II and widespread racialized fears surrounding their use of Japanese, then considered by many to be an "enemy language." Outside of the classroom, Robbie worked as a photographer and editor for the Yale Daily News, taught English as a second language to members of the New Haven community, and studied and interned abroad in Seoul, South Korea, and Singapore..
When he's not teaching or grading, you can catch Robbie wandering around looking lost, often with his camera in his hands; trying a new bread recipe in the kitchen (please send him yours!); or playing a horrible, horrible game of tennis on the CU courts. He's excited to learn more about Hong Kong and its history and culture and his students and their interests and experiences.
