Re: Second Term Course Registration in November 2020
Dear Students,
Information on “Second Term Course Registration and Add/Drop, 2020-21” has been posted on RES homepage. Please check your time appointment for course selection in “Enrollment Dates” under CUSIS on or after 30 October. For detailed course registration schedules, please refer to the University Almanac. If there is any discrepancy about your time appointment, please report to RES (e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
Students whose expected term of graduation is 1st term 2020-21 will NOT have the time appointment for course registration under CUSIS. Please approach Major Programme to seek approval to change the expected graduation term with special reasons if they need to register courses for 2nd term 2020-21.
Please also observe the following important information prior to course registration.
- Always check Undergraduate Student Handbook
Students may use the ‘Academic Advisement’ system under CUSIS to monitor their own academic progress and check their course fulfillment for graduation requirements. Besides, students should also refer to the study schemes of Major, Minor (if applicable), and other University requirements stipulated under the Undergraduate Student Handbook available at the homepage of the Academic and Quality Section of the Registry (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/aqs) for checking the requirements. - Application for Exceeding Term Course Load
To achieve a greener campus, a new e-Application System for exceeding course load has been developed. Starting from this term, students who need to exceed term course load should submit their application on RES homepage instead of using a hardcopy form for endorsement of the Major Programme in accordance with clause 5.3 of the General Regulations Governing Full-time Undergraduate Studies (extracted below). Students must read the information on RES homepage prior to submitting the application.
5.3 Notwithstanding Regulation 5.1, under special circumstances a student may be allowed to take fewer than 9 units or more than 18 units in a term, or more than 39 units in an academic year if recommended by his/her Major Programme and approved by the Registrar, in accordance with such conditions as determined by the Senate from time to time.
The e-Application System for exceeding term course load will open from 2-11 November 2020 and 4-13 January 2021. For students who submit the application by the specified periods above, their course load will be updated under CUSIS before course registration in November 2020 or before course add/drop which begins on 18 January 2021 respectively.
- Shopping Cart, Pre-assigned Courses, and Validate Courses under CUSIS
Students may put the courses intended to take in the ‘Shopping Cart’ and check the eligibility of the courses using "Validate" function starting from 9 November. Pre-assigned classes such as College Assembly, compulsory College General Education courses and classes pre-assigned by departments will be available for students' enquiry on or before 12 November. For other courses such as required Physical Education Courses, University Core Requirements and exemptions, please check the information on RES homepage.
Students are recommended to use ‘Validate’ function once again prior to their actual course registration as there may be amendments to class enrolment rules/timetable. Please also check reserved quotas using ‘Teaching Timetable by Subject/Department’ to see if the class quotas are intended for specified students. - Students on the wait list under CUSIS
Students on wait list MUST remove their name on their own from the wait list if they do not intend to enroll in the class concerned. The wait list generated during the course enrolment in November will be kept until the close of e-add/drop period, unless otherwise decided by the departments concerned. - FAQ, enquiry hotline and e-mail enquiries
Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) posted under RES homepage if students encounter any problems during course registration. Our hotline 3943 9888 and ITSC’s technical support for course registration will be extended up to 10:30 p.m. on 16 November and 9:30 p.m. on 19, 23 and 26 November respectively. Our services and support will follow our normal office hours on other working days. Students may also send e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots.
